Brazos Wine Imports is owned and operated by Brian Ravitsky and Jon Chaplin. We landed our first container of wine in 2009. Throughout our careers we have worked in almost every facet of the wine business (F&B, Retail, Production, Distribution and Supply). We have both completed multiple wine-study certifications, but more importantly, we are painstakingly passionate about food and wine. We are humbled to represent a lean and mean portfolio that we distribute through one of the very best wholesale networks in the USA.
We import wine from twelve different producers located in some of the best sub-regions of Argentina and Chile. We focus on artisanal, single vineyard, small production, estate grown, environmentally friendly wines. The wines we represent all share an old world, terroir-centric style which we believe are unique and rare qualities to find in South America.
Our wines are always shipped and stored in temperature controlled environments. Please note that we warehouse state-side at Adobe Creek in Petaluma, CA (Sonoma County).
We spend the majority of our time working the market to grow our brands organically. We are passionate about the wineries we represent and are committed to doing everything we can to support the Distributors, Retailers, and Restauranteurs that we work with. We strive to be proactive in the marketplace and hang our hat on our reputation. Independent restaurants, bottle shoppes and some select small regional groups comprise the majority of the trade that buys our wine. We are very proud of the caliber of accounts that pour and sell our wine. It has been extremely affirming to partner with some of the best distributors in the country.
I was born in Philadelphia and grew up in South Florida. Since the age of 13, I have worked in just about every capacity of Food and Beverage. I eventually fell in love with food and wine. I graduated from CU, Boulder in 1998 while simultaneously touring the country playing drums with a rock and roll band. In 2000, I bought wine for a gourmet food and wine store in Palm Beach and began working in distribution for Vinifera Imports in South Florida. I headed West and worked for Gallo in San Francisco and studied Wine at UC Berkeley. I transferred with Gallo to Colorado to help open an on-premise distributor. During that time I became a Certified Specialist of Wine with the Society of Wine Educators. In 2005 I went to work for the Kobrand Corporation in New York and the Carolinas. We landed Brazos' first container in July of 2009. I'm grateful to have worked for the good people at Advintage Fine Wine and Craft Beer in Charleston, SC up until the point that I was ready to work exclusively on Brazos. I am also a musician. I have studied the drums since I was six years old. I began playing professionally in 1995. I am proud to have shared the stage with Neil Young, Primus, Beck and many other amazing artists. I play music in the studio and in live venues with Baptiste Ibar, David Cieri, Kenny Cambre, and Putnam Murdock among various other projects and players. When I'm not involved with wine and music I likes to eat good food, travel, and spend time with family and friends. I live in Brooklyn, New York.
I was born in Germany and grew up in a diplomatic family. We spent time living in Romania, Portugal, and a few states across the USA, but most of my childhood was in Virginia. I caught the wine bug at an early age, having small sips(glasses) of wine at the table every night with dinner. I have worked in many facets of the wine industry: a partner in a boutique retail store in aspen, a sommelier at multiple restaurants, and with a distributor in both sales rep and management positions. I am close to fluent in Spanish , which has proven invaluable in forming and growing the relationships Brazos has with our growers in Argentina and Chile. Based out of Denver, Colorado I am an avid outdoor enthusiast where I can often be found rock climbing, camping, hiking, wakeboarding, or on a trip to a beach to enjoy some ocean activities. I am passionate about wine in all of its global varieties and believe it is an important addition to cultivating an enjoyable life.
